Tennessee State Rep. Mark Pody said recently that he introduced a bill that seeks to void marriage equality because God tasked him with warning the “wicked” that their “sin” will lead to death.

“I believe I'm supposed to be speaking to the unsaved, to the people that are involved in same-sex marriage,” Pody said during a recent event. “It is wicked. It is wrong. And I am doing the best I can to warn them.”

Pody's bill, titled the Tennessee Natural Marriage Defense Act, would void the Supreme Court's June finding in Obergefell v. Hodges that gay and lesbian couples have a constitutional right to marry.

“Natural marriage between one (1) man and one (1) woman as recognized by the people of Tennessee remains the law in Tennessee, regardless of any court decision to the contrary,” the bill (House Bill 1412) states.

“Any court decision purporting to strike down natural marriage, including Obergefell v. Hodges, is unauthoritative, void and of no effect.”

Pody told supporters that passage of his bill would say, “No, it will not happen here!”

“I believe that Nashville, Tennessee, is the time and the place that we put down the stake and we say, 'No more!'” he said.

He added that the time had come for Christians to rise up against this “unconstitutional tyranny,” because “the Supreme Court is not the supreme being” and God is working miracles in generating support for his legislation.
