Republican Governor Greg Abbott on
Monday took a swipe at Democratic presidential candidate Hillary
Rodham Clinton in urging a no vote on the LGBT-inclusive Houston
Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO).
“HOUSTON: Vote Texas values, not
@HillaryClinton values. Vote NO on City of Houston Proposition 1.
No men in women's bathrooms,” the Texas governor tweeted.
HERO prohibits discrimination in
housing, employment and public accommodations based on more than a
dozen characteristics including race, religion, sexual orientation
and gender identity.
Opponents of the law forced it onto
Tuesday's ballot. Passage of Proposition 1 would keep the law.
Clinton, along with President
Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, has called on Houston
voters to keep HERO.

The campaign to repeal HERO has
centered mostly on transgender rights, with opponents falsely
claiming that the law would give male sexual predators access to
women's restrooms.
