Krzysztof Charamsa, the Polish priest
who was fired last month for coming out gay, says that Jesus Christ
would be okay with gay people.
The 43-year-old Charamsa announced that
he is gay and has a partner on the day before Pope Francis opened the
Synod of Bishops, a three-week assembly of bishops from around the
world looking at issues facing Catholic families.
The Vatican called Charamsa's actions
“irresponsible,” adding that he “will certainly be unable” to
continue as a theologian at the Vatican.
Charamsa told the BBC on Friday that
coming out was his “act of desperation” to get the Vatican to
think about the “reality of our world.”
When asked what he believes Jesus'
views on gay people would be, Charamsa
answered: “I think that the message of Jesus Christ is [to]
call for the church for us, for every person who believes in a
Christian God, is to accept and to understand that [a] homosexual
person must love and [live], [and] must have a relationship in
concordance with their nature.”
