Michael Sam and former fiance Vito
Cammisano reunited to record a video in support of GLAAD's Spirit
Day.
The 6th annual Spirit Day
supports efforts to combat the bullying of LGBT teens. Supporters
are encouraged to wear purple.
Wearing purple shirts emblazoned with
“everybody's different … DEAL WITH IT,” the men explain why
they support Spirit Day.
“As someone who was once bullied, I
think it’s very important that we tackle this issue,” said Sam,
the first openly gay player to be drafted into the National Football
League (NFL). “So many kids have reached out to me telling me how
they have been bullied.”
“I support Spirit Day because I was
bullied in middle school a lot and I never want any young person to
feel like they can’t be comfortable being who they are,”
Cammisano said. “Let’s get the word out today that we are not
going to take bullying anymore.”
