In hosting an interview with his
parents on Sunday, National Coming Out Day, Andy Cohen discussed how
he came out to them.
Cohen, who is best known for hosting
Bravo's nightly talk show Watch What Happens: Live, spoke with
his parents on his exclusive SiriusXM radio channel, Radio Andy.
Ev Cohen said that she suspected her
son was gay when she saw him “prancing around” in a high school
musical and later that day found gay porn magazines stashed under his
bed.
Before her son left for college, she
confronted him about a letter she found in which he wrote to a friend
about his struggle to come out.
“And then we had that very awkward
dinner,” Andy
recalled.
Ev said that she asked her son if he
had something he wanted to tell her, and he answered that she already
knew. But she told him that he had to say it.
“Why did you want me to say it to
you, instead of just having it being inferred?”
“Because that made it real,” Ev
answered, adding that she told him at the time that she “never
would have liked his wife anyway.”
Andy's father, Lou Cohen, responded to
his son's coming out by reassuring him that he loved him.
