Detroit Police are investigating the death of a gay man who was fatally shot.

Police have not released the man's real name, but his body was found near McNichols and Woodward on Monday morning.

Officer Danielle Woods told Fox 2 Detroit: “When [police] arrived at the scene, they found a black male in [his] 30s dressed in women's clothing, fatally shot.”

Julisa Abad (pictured above), a transgender advocate, said of the victim: “Melvin identified as a gay male, not transgender. He did cross dress from time to time in order to make a living.”

The murder is the third this year for the area involving an LGBT person. In the other two cases, the victims were transgender.

“We are very scared,” said Abad, who recently moved out of the area. “Transgender people as well as members of the LGBT [community], have been victimized and are targets in [the] 6 Mile and Woodward [area].”

Abad asked Detroiters to “stop the violence.”
