Doritos on Thursday unveiled “Doritos
Rainbows,” corn chips in colors inspired by the LGBT Pride flag.
People who donate at least $10 to the
It Gets Better Project through a special
website will receive bags of the limited-edition chips via mail.
The It Gets Better Project, a
non-profit group which reaches out to troubled LGBT teens, was
co-founded in 2010 by author-activist Dan Savage.
Texas-based Frito-Lay, a division of
PepsiCo, said in a statement that the It Gets Better Project will
receive all of the donations.
“Doritos Rainbows chips are a
first-of-its-kind product supporting the LGBT community,” said Ram
Krishnan, Frito-Lay's chief marketing officer. “Doritos the brand
has stood 'for the bold,' and we believe there is nothing bolder than
being yourself.”
Doritos is a corporate sponsor of
Sunday's Dallas Pride event, whose attendees will be the first to try
“Doritos Rainbows.”
