Actor Neil Patrick Harris has said that
communication plays an important role in making his marriage work.
Earlier this month, Harris (How I
Met Your Mother, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) and husband David
Burtka celebrated their first anniversary
The men, together over 10 years, are
raising 4-year-old twins Gideon Scott and Harper Grace.
“I think relationships just change by
design,” Harris told Entertainment Tonight. “And so if
you are too rigid about what your expectations are and then suddenly
it changes, I think then you'd have more reason to want to look
elsewhere for stuff.”
“But we have two kids and so that
constantly changes, too.”
“At least in our relationship,
communication is super important. Good friends of ours said that you
need to talk it out. And if that means raising your voice, you need
to raise your voice. And, like, know what you're talking about.
Know where you're standing and then move past it, as opposed to
letting stuff build up,” he
added.
Harris returned to network television
on Tuesday with the premiere of Best Time Ever, a variety show
hosted and executive produced by Harris.
