In an ABC What Would You Do?
segment aired earlier this month, strangers step up to defend a gay
couple who wants to adopt.
In the scenario staged by ABC
producers, a young pregnant woman meets with a male gay couple in a
restaurant to discuss adopting her baby. Another woman interrupts,
telling her that giving her baby to a gay couple would be “wrong.”
“Seriously? You're going to give
your baby to a couple of gay guys? Not to be mean, but I think
that's the worst thing you could do to your baby. No offense,” she
complains.
“I just think you're making a huge
mistake.”
A man sitting nearby confronts the
woman, asking “What's wrong with two men having a baby?”
“If they're in love, who cares?” he
asks.
The man later tells producers that he
has a gay brother.
“Right away you spoke up,” host
John Quinones tells the man in revealing that the scene was staged.
“Yeah, I would like to think if that
happened to my brother that someone would have stepped up. It just
sounds like ignorance, quite frankly,” he said.
Another man tells the woman to “mind
her own business.”
“Stop berating her,” the man's wife
says.
“With what's going on in the world
today, something like that that would be filled with love should be
embraced,” the man tells Quinones. (The video is embedded on this
