Netflix on Saturday renewed Sense8
for a second season.
Sense8,
a play on the word sensate, was created by Andy and Lana Wachowski
(The Matrix) and J.
Michael Straczynski.
Last month,
Straczynski said during a TCA panel that he was uncertain whether the
show would return for a second season. “We're cautiously
optimistic, but, ultimately, it's Netflix's call,” he said.
“Birthdays are
just the beginning. #sense8 is reborn,” the streaming service
tweeted Saturday, the birthday the eight sense8s on the show share.
Among
the show's eight characters coping with a new-found ability to
communicate with each other in a dimension that transcends reality
are Nomi Marks (played by transgender actress Jamie Clayton), a
lesbian transgender woman, and Lito Rodriguez (played by Spanish
actor Miguel Ángel
Silvestre), a gay man.
The show has been
praised for exploring gender and sexuality in an honest and
straightforward way.
