As of Saturday, 94 gay and lesbian couples have invited Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott to attend their upcoming nuptials.

The Australian Parliament is expected to take up next month a proposed bill that would allow gay couples to marry in Australia.

Abbott, an opponent of marriage equality, is being called on to allow his Coalition MPs a conscience vote on the issue.

The website InviteTony.com encourages gay couples to invite the prime minister to their upcoming marriage ceremonies, and nearly 100 have.

The website sends personalized “Save the Date” cards to Abbott and guests on behalf of couples who connect via Facebook. People can also show their support by “joining the guest list.”

The Australian law firm Maurice Blackburn is behind the campaign.
