In accepting an award for her gay rights advocacy, actress Fran Drescher thanked her “gay ex-husband.”

Drescher and ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson created and produced the long-running CBS sitcom The Nanny, which starred Drescher as Fran Fine, a Jewish working class woman from Queens who creates chaos when she lands a job looking after the children of an upper class Broadway producer in New York.

The couple reunited to produce TV Land's comedy Happily Divorced, which was loosely based on Drescher's life following her divorce from Jacobson in 1999 after 21 years of marriage.

“I have a gay art dealer, a gay dermatologist – not to mention my hairdresser. I have a gay ex-husband!” she said Tuesday at the Stonewall Community Foundation Vision Awards.

“People always say to me, 'How did you not know?' He loves decorating and fashion and clothes, but we actually did have sex a lot. I didn't know at the time, though, that in his mind he was fucking the bartender at Oliver Garden,” Drescher added.
