Laverne Cox appears as the Statue of
Liberty on the cover of Entertainment Weekly's (EW) LGBT Pride
issue.
“@OITNB's @LaverneCox stars in our
first LGBT issue in 15 years,” EW tweeted out on Thursday.
In the issue, Cox, known for playing a
transgender woman in the Netflix series Orange is the New Black,
discusses the debut of Caitlyn Jenner on the cover of Vanity Fair.
“Her authenticity, her vulnerability
is beautiful,” she said. “Her love for her family is so
beautiful. Caitlyn is dynamic, and has a sense of purpose and
vision.”
“I'm grateful that I had the luxury
of transitioning in private,” she added.
“Because when you transition in the
public eye, the transition becomes the story. I'm always disturbed
when I see conversations about trans people that focus on surgery.
But I believe Caitlyn will transcend this moment.”
EW also released a
behind-the-scenes video of Cox's photo shoot.
