Caitlyn Jenner's mother has called her
daughter's public transition “courageous.”
Olympian Bruce Jenner came out as a
transgender woman in April during a two-hour ABC News special with
Diane Sawyer.
Caitlyn Jenner's debut on the cover of
Vanity Fair made her the most high-profile transgender woman
in America.
Esther Jenner, 88, told PEOPLE that she
recently visited Jenner in Malibu.
“It was a wonderful day,” she
said. “It takes so much courage to do what she's doing. When
I first saw [Caitlyn], all I wanted to do was give her a big hug. It
was such new information.”
“It takes some time getting used to.
I've called [Caitlyn] Bruce since the day he was born. It's going to
take some time. But I will adjust.”
“I love her,” the elder Jenner
added. “And she's happy. That's all that matters.”
