Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick
Santorum on Thursday said that attending the wedding of a gay person
whom he loves would be a “violation of his faith.”
Santorum, a possible candidate for the
Republican presidential nomination, made his comments during an
appearance on the Hugh Hewitt Show.
After Santorum said that as president
he would defend “human rights everywhere,” host Hugh Hewitt asked
whether he would attend the wedding of a gay person who he loves, a
reference to Florida Senator Marco Rubio recently saying that he
Rubio says he would attend same-sex wedding of someone he loves.)
“No, I would not,” he
“Oh, why not?” Hewitt asked.
“No, I mean, because, I just, I don't
… As a person of my faith, that that would be something that would
be a violation of my faith. I would love them and support them, but
I would not participate in that ceremony,” Santorum explained.
