In a wide-ranging AARP cover story,
Robin Roberts gushes about her life with partner Amber Laign.
The 54-year-old Roberts quietly came
out in late 2013 when she thanked Laign in a Facebook post for
standing by her side during a tumultuous year. She told AARP
that Laign helped make her 50th birthday special.
“It was my 50th birthday celebration,
and Amber had heard me moaning and groaning about some kind of
party,” she recalled. “I'd told her all I wanted to do was dance
on the beach. We were on Turks and Caicos. She set the whole thing
up – a dance floor on the beach – as a surprise. But then it
rained. Still, I was just thrilled that she heard me.”
The Good Morning America co-host
added that she was looking forward to a second decade with Laign.
“There is no fuss with us. We're so
happy. We've been happily in a relationship for 10 years and are
looking forward to the next 10 after that,” she said.
