ABC Family's The Fosters made
history on Monday with its broadcast of a same-sex kiss.
On the show, now in its second season,
Lena (played by Sherri Saum) and Stef (Teri Polo) are two working
moms coping with raising five children, including the recent addition
of a wayward teenage girl.
Jude (Hayden Byerly) is the youngest
son in the family at 14. Connor (Gavin MacIntosh) came to Jude's
rescue when he was being bullied. On Monday's episode, Jude
confronts Connor about their relationship and Connor responds by
kissing Jude. It is believed to be the youngest same-sex kiss in
television history.
“This story line is important in so
many ways,” MacIntosh told JustJaredJr.com.
“It's been eye opening about how many kids struggle with feeling
'OK' about questioning their sexuality.”
“Just being 13 is difficult enough,
going through physical and emotional changes, then if you add in not
being sure about if you like boys or girls, and society telling you
that you should be a certain way – I can see why so many kids are
struggling.”
He added that he was “proud” of his
role on the show.
