ABC has picked up a television comedy
inspired by writer-LGBT rights activist Dan Savage.
According to The
Hollywood Reporter, ABC picked up a pilot for the untitled
series on Monday.
The comedy “centers on a
picture-perfect family that is turned upside down when the youngest
son comes of out the closet. What seems like the end of their
idyllic life turns out to be the beginning of a bright new chapter
when everyone stops pretending to be perfect and actually starts
being real,” the outlet reported.
Savage, a co-founder of the It Gets
Better campaign which reaches out to troubled LGBT teens, is known
for being real, including going after high-profile celebrities and
politicians who oppose gay rights such as Dr.
Laura, Mike
Huckabee, Rick
Santorum and Michele
Bachmann.
The 50-year-old Savage has written
numerous op-eds and published six books, including The Kid,
which was adapted into a musical.
