Four days after TMZ.com wrote the
headline “Michael Sam: I'm Engaged!” neither Sam nor his supposed
fiance Vito Cammisano have responded.
TMZ argued that proof of the engagement
can be found on Twitter, pointing to a congratulatory tweet that Sam
liked by a college friend of Cammisano's.
The couple set off on a European
vacation and was happily sharing photos of their journey on Twitter,
Instagram and Facebook.
After TMZ released its story, thousands
congratulated the couple on social media. A
NOH8 Campaign tweet alone has been retweeted 860 times and
favorited 1,159 times as of Sunday afternoon.
The latest tweet from Sam was dated
January 7, while Cammisano's latest message was dated January 6.
In the recent OWN documentary Michael
Sam, Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted in the NFL,
discussed meeting Cammisano at the University of Missouri.
