Singer Beth Ditto and Kristin Ogata
tied the knot in a ceremony held on New Year's Eve in Oregon.
The couple exchanged vows 18 months ago
in Hawaii. At the time, Hawaii recognized gay couples with civil
unions but has since legalized marriage.
Ditto, lead singer for the three-piece
indie rock band Gossip, and Ogata live in Portland, Oregon.
“Legally married finally, a year
later! Thanks everyone who fought to make gay marriage legal in
Oregon! In 2015, the whole US!” she wrote on Facebook.
Gay couples began marrying in Oregon in
May after a federal judge struck down the state's ban.
Ditto announced plans to marry in 2012,
telling The
Guardian that she “was born to be married.”
“I love the idea of being partnered
forever. I love my girlfriend, we've been best friends since I was
18. There's not a thing we haven't been through except marriage,”
she said.
