Christian conservative Tony Perkins,
president of the Family Research Council (FRC), claims in an
interview that gay marriage foes are on the “winning side” of
history
Perkins made his remarks during an
appearance on the Point of View radio program, where he
discussed his participation at a marriage conference hosted last
month by the Vatican.
At the conference, Pope Francis praised
the complementarity “between man and woman” but also said that
the family was changing.
Still, Perkins likened the event, and
presumably the pope's words, to receiving a pep talk when your team
is down.
“It was like being in the locker
room,” Perkins
said. “You're down at halftime. You're several touchdowns
behind. You really just don't see any way forward. And you get a
pep talk in the locker room and you're ready to go back out on the
field and win the game.”
“This was a moment to step back and
get it into perspective of world history, human history, and say,
'You know what? We are on the winning side,'” Perkins added.
“This idea that we're on the wrong side of history; no, we're on
the side of the one who wrote history and we will prevail in this.”
