In an interview to be broadcast Monday,
Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders discusses homosexuality and
Michael Sam.
Sanders appeared on Larry King Now
to discuss his OWN series Deion's Family Playbook.
Host Larry King asked him about out NFL
player Sam, whose coming out Sanders had applauded.
“I applaud Missouri DE
@MichaelSamfootball for his bravery & honesty about who he is,”
Sanders tweeted at the time.
“You know, I reached out to Michael
Sam because I have a cousin who's gay. He was gay ever since we were
kids,” Sanders
told King. “I'm not saying I condone it, but I don't condemn
it. I don't love what he do but I love him as a man. And I just
wanted him to understand the burden and the weight he's carrying.”
When asked If he thought being gay was
a choice, Sanders paused then answered, “It could be.”
“I don't know why, who would choose
it?” King asked.
“Who wouldn't?” Sanders responded.
“Well, we can get into saying God did this and God did that. The
God I know don't make mistakes.” (The video is embedded on this
