Singer-songwriter Vanessa Carlton has
joined the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) Americans for Marriage
Equality campaign.
In a 45-second clip released Thursday,
the 34-year-old Carlton, who came out bisexual in 2010 while
headlining Nashville Pride, says she supports marriage equality
because “love is love.”
“This December my husband and I will
celebrate our one year wedding anniversary,” Carlton says. “And
it's been an amazing year. And even more exciting 'cause we have a
baby on the way.”
“But it doesn't keep me from thinking
about my gay and lesbian friends who still cannot commit to each
other through marriage.”
“What if I had met the right woman,
instead of the right man? Love is love and we need nationwide
marriage equality now,” she adds. (The video is embedded on this
