A Wisconsin judge has recognized the
Iowa marriage of a lesbian couple for the purpose of adoption.
On Wednesday, Kat Riley adopted the
2-year-old biological daughter of her wife, Teresa Riley, who adopted
her wife's 4-year-old biological son, according to the Wisconsin
State Journal.
The Rileys, together six years,
exchanged vows last year in Iowa and are registered as domestic
partners in Wisconsin.
Dane County Circuit Judge Shelley
Gaylord said that she recognized the couple's out-of-state marriage
in part because Wisconsin's constitutional amendment which defines
marriage as a heterosexual union has been found unconstitutional.
At least one other gay couple's
marriage has been recognized, the
paper reported.
On August 13, Dane County Judge Julie
Genovese allowed Heather Schaller to adopt her wife's 5-year-old
daughter.
Dane County is the state's second most
populous county.
