New Jersey Congressman Steve Rothman
(Democrat) told Sirius Radio's OutQ program Tuesday that his lesbian
stepdaughter changed his mind in favor of gay marriage.
Rothman told Michelangelo Signorile
host of the Michelangelo Signorile Show that he now supports
gay marriage.
Rothman announced he had joined the
House Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Caucus in June, reports the
online edition of The Advocate. The caucus formed by openly
out Wisconsin Representative Tammy Baldwin (Democrat) and
Massachusetts Representative Barney Frank (Democrat) is designed to
broaden Congressional awareness of GLBT issues.
The 55-year-old congressman has been a
long supporter of civil unions. He said his 19-year-old
stepdaughter, who is a lesbian, changed his position on the issue.
