The Normal Heart arrived on DVD
and on demand sites such as iTunes on Tuesday, a day after it won the
Emmy for best television movie.
Director Ryan Murphy's film adaptation
of Larry Kramer's Tony-winning play about the early days of the AIDS
pandemic in New York City premiered over Memorial Day weekend on
premium cable network HBO.
Normal
Heart features an all-star cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Matt
Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts.

A film adaptation failed to gain
traction in Hollywood for nearly 30 years, despite attempts by
high-profile actors such as Barbra Streisand.
In accepting the Emmy Award for best
television movie, Murphy dedicated the win to “all the hundreds of
thousands of artists who passed from HIV/AIDS in 1981.”
