Nearly 2,150 people pitched in to raise
$56,375 in 1 day to help a young gay man who was rejected by his
family.
Daniel Pierce of Kennesaw, Georgia
filmed on his smartphone an “intervention” organized by his
family to “pray away the gay.” A coworker uploaded the video of
the disturbing events to YouTube.
In the 5-minute clip, Daniel's
grandmother says he's being disowned, his mother physically assaults
him and his father calls him a “disgrace.” (The video is
embedded on this page. Visit
our video library more videos.)
According to gay glossy The
Advocate, Daniel has moved out of the house and is living
with his aunt in Atlanta.
The plea for financial help was made by
Daniel's boyfriend, who asked for $2,000 to help the teen on
GoFundMe.com.
Daniel said he was overwhelmed by the
response.
“I am so thankful for all the
comments, support and donations,” he wrote on the page. “This is
all just so amazing!!!”
