Actor Ian McKellen (The Hobbit,
X-Men) and designer Tom Ford are among the openly gay celebrities
who have accepted the ice bucket challenge in support of the ALS
Association.
The group's #IceBucketChallenge helps
raise awareness and funds to help in the fight to find a cure for
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (also known as Lou Gehrics Disease), a
neurodegenerative disease.
McKellen accepted the challenge from
George Takei and Luke Evans and and dared actors Laura Linney, Derek
Jacobi and Anthony Hopkins to follow his lead.
McKellen completed the challenge on the
studio lot in London where he is filming Mr. Holmes – which
stars McKellen as Sherlock Holmes and Laura Linney as housekeeper
Mrs. Munro. (The video is embedded on this page. Visit

A seated Tom Ford, dressed in jeans and
a denim shirt, was doused
with a bucket of ice water by husband Richard Buckley.
