Legendary actress-singer Dolly Parton
has denied rumors she married a longtime female friend, saying if she
were gay, she would be the first to run out of the closet.
In an interview with Michigan
gay weekly Pride Source, the 68-year-old Parton, who is
promoting her latest studio album Blue Smoke, dismissed a
recent National Enquirer story linking her to Judy Ogle.
When Parton was asked to respond to
people mistaking her for gay, she answered: “[Laughs] Well, you
know what, it's true. In fact, there was some story recently where I
was supposedly marrying my longtime friend Judy and that my husband
was OK with it! I thought, 'Where did they come up with all this?' I
am not gay, but if I were I would be the first one running out of the
closet.”
“And right into Judy's arms,” the
interviewer said.
“Yeah, who knows! I might've said:
'Judy, you wanna get something going with me?' [Laughs] But our
friendship is just a precious friendship.”
Parton added that if she were a drag
queen her stage name would be “P. Kitty … like P. Diddy!”
