Michael Sam and Jason Collins tweeted
congratulations to Derrick Gordon on coming out gay.
Gordon, a guard on the Minuteman
basketball team at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst,
publicly came out on Wednesday, making him the first openly gay NCAA
Division 1 basketball player.

Collins is the NBA's first openly gay
player, coming out last year on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
“I'm so proud of @flash2gordon,”
Collins messaged to his more than 108,000 followers. “Another
brave young man who is going to make it easier for so many others to
live an authentic life. #courage.”
Sam, an NFL draft prospect who came out
gay in February, also congratulated Gordon.
“Many congratulations to you Derrick
Gordon @flash2gordon – you have so many in your corner and we're
all proud and rooting for you #courage,” Sam messaged to his more
than 95,000 followers.
