The Atlanta Hawks will honor Good
Morning America host Robin Roberts next week.
The team will present Roberts with its
Be Greater award during its March 21 game against the New Orleans
Pelicans.
“Robin Roberts embodies every aspect
of what it means to be a champion, and the Atlanta Hawks are honored
to celebrate her courage, spirit and philanthropy,” Bob Williams,
president of the Atlanta Hawks, said in a statement.
The 53-year-old Roberts in 2012 fought
a severe blood-related condition with a bone marrow transplant.
Since then, she has become an official ambassador of hope for Be The
Match, a group that raises awareness around the need for bone marrow
donors. The Hawks say they want to thank Roberts for her advocacy.
In a late December Facebook post,
Roberts thanked her girlfriend for standing by her side during a
tumultuous year, marking the first time Roberts had publicly
acknowledged her sexual orientation.
