The gay vice principal who was fired by
his Catholic employer over his marriage has said he'll file a
lawsuit.
Mark “Mr. Z” Zmuda, a popular
teacher, coach and vice principal at Eastside Catholic School in
Seattle, lost his job on December 18 after school officials learned
that he had married his longtime partner over the summer.
Principal Polly Skinner has previously
said that the firing was necessary because Eastside is “bound by
Catholic teaching regarding same-sex marriage.”
According
to Zmuda, a school official told him that he could keep his job
if he consented to divorce his husband.
Students rallied to Zmuda's side and
more than 20,000 Christians signed a petition calling on school
administrators to reconsider their decision.
Zmuda is expected to discuss details
about the suit on Friday, KIRO
reported.
