Premium cable network HBO on Thursday
confirmed that it would debut the film adaptation of The Normal
Heart, Larry Kramer's Tony-winning AIDS play, on Sunday, May 25.
The film's all-star cast includes Mark
Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Julia Roberts.
Ryan Murphy (Glee, Eat Pray Love)
directed the feature length film, which is based on a script written
by Larry Kramer (Women in Love).
Murphy said during a Television Critics
Association panel in January that it was “sort of thrilling” to
feature Bomer (White Collar) and Parsons (Big Bang Theory),
both of whom are openly gay, as leading men in an AIDS TV drama.
Ruffalo – a co-star of the 2010
lesbian moms flick The Kids Are Alright – will tackle his
first gay role playing Ned Weeks, the hero of Kramer's play about the
early days of the AIDS pandemic in New York City.
