Ellen DeGeneres has denied tabloid
rumors she and wife Portia de Rossi are divorcing.
DeGeneres, who on Sunday night will
host the 86th Academy Awards, and de Rossi married in
California in 2008 shortly before voters approved Proposition 8, the
state's now defunct constitutional amendment limiting marriage to
heterosexual couples.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live,
DeGerenes expressed surprise to learn that her marriage was failing.
“I read that we were getting
divorced. And I went and told her, and she was sad. Oh my god, we
both were so sad,” DeGeneres told host Jimmy Kimmel.
“I would be sad about that, too,”
Kimmel responded.
“Yeah, I couldn't believe that we
were getting divorced. So … I guess we are.”
“No, we're very happy and that's not
the truth,” DeGeneres added. “No, we are happy. That is the
