Former first lady and Secretary of
State Hillary Clinton has applauded Arizona Governor Jan Brewer for
vetoing a bill opponents claim would have allowed individuals and
businesses to discriminate against gay people.
Brewer vetoed the bill on Wednesday
after its passage last week created an uproar.
The measure, known as SB 1062, states
that a business can refuse service based on the owner's religious
beliefs. Opponents called the measure a license to discriminate on
the basis of sexual orientation.

“Thankfully, the governor of Arizona
has vetoed the discriminatory legislation that was passed,” Clinton
told a University of Miami audience, “recognizing that inclusive
leadership is really what the twenty-first century is all about.”
