In expressing his outrage at a federal
judge's ruling declaring Texas' ban on gay marriage invalid, Texas
State Senator Dan Patrick, a Republican, defined traditional marriage
as between “ONE MAN & ONE MAN” in a tweet.
The ruling, stayed pending an appeal,
is the sixth federal decision in less than 10 weeks knocking down all
or part of a state's marriage ban.
(Related: Texas'
gay marriage ban ruled unconstitutional.)
Patrick, a candidate for lieutenant
governor, reacted in a series of tweets.
“Marriage is between one man and one
woman. Period.”
“As Lieutenant Governor I'll fight
activist judges and defend our traditional Texas values.”
“MARRIAGE = ONE MAN & ONE MAN,”
he added in a separate tweet. “Enough of these activist judges.
FAVORITE if you agree. I know the silent majority out there is with
us!”
The final message was quickly deleted
and replaced, but not before a screengrab of the original made the
rounds on social media.
He then added: “oops! #twittertypo.
We have a new job opening on our campaign: social media intern.
Send resume to contact @ danpatrick.org.”
