Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh
on Tuesday told his listeners that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer was
“being bullied by the homosexual lobby” to veto a bill opponents
say would allow individuals and businesses to discriminate against
gay people.
The measure, titled SB 1062, created an
uproar after it cleared the House and Senate late last week.
A Brewer spokesperson on Tuesday denied
reports that she had decided to veto the measure, which states that
individuals and businesses can refuse service based on their
religious beliefs.
“The governor of Arizona is being
bullied,” Limbaugh said. “She is being bullied by the homosexual
lobby in Arizona and elsewhere. She is being bullied by the
nationwide Drive-By Media. She is being bullied by certain elements
of corporate America in order to advance the gay agenda. I guess in
that circumstance, bullying is admirable. In fact, this kind of
bullying is honorable.”
He described the furor surrounding the
measure as a media “soap opera.”
