Arizona senators John McCain and Jeff
Flake oppose an Arizona bill which opponents say would allow
businesses and individuals to discriminate against gays.
The measure, which
states that individuals and businesses can refuse service based on
their religious beliefs, created an uproar over the weekend
after it cleared the House and Senate late last week. Republican
Governor Jan Brewer has yet to say whether she'll sign the bill but
did call it “controversial.”
Joining in calling for Brewer to veto
the legislation are McCain and Flake, both of whom are Republican.
“I hope Governor Brewer vetoes SB
1062,” Flake tweeted.
McCain messaged: “I hope Governor
Brewer will veto #SB1062.”
The bill has been widely criticized by
business groups, the media, politicians, entertainers and activists.
