Jason Collins worked out this week with
the Brooklyn Nets, who are considering signing him to a 10-day
contract.
If brought on to fill one of two open
roster spots, Collins would become the NBA's first active openly gay
player.
ESPN.com
reported that that the Nets are interested in Collins to help bolster
a depleted frontcourt rotation and that Collins worked out with the
team in a private audition in Los Angeles.
“He's in shape,” Nets General
Manager Billy King said of the 35-year-old Collins.
“He's one of the names on the list,”
King added. “We will look at anybody that's a free agent that's
big that's out there. We're looking at any guys that are free agents
and he's one of the guys. But we've got other guys that we'll look
at.”
Collins announced he's gay in a
Sports Illustrated cover last year.
