In explaining why he believes gay sex is a sin,
televangelist Pat Robertson declared gay sex is not “very pretty.”
Robertson, an ardent opponent of gay
rights, made his remarks during The 700 Club's Bring It
On-Line segment, in which he answers viewers' questions.
“Why is it a sin to be gay?” a
viewer asked. “It seems awfully arbitrary. I know many gays who
believe that Christ died for our sins. They love God, believe in the
power of prayer, fasting and tithing. It is hard for me to believe
that a loving God would condemn an otherwise good-hearted person just
for loving the same gender. Can you please help me understand this?”
“Sex is for marriage,” Robertson
said in response. “So, God established marriage between a man and
a woman.”
“Now, what happens to homosexuals?
You can have a tendency, that's no sin. You can be attracted to the
same sex, no problem. But when you start having sex with that
person, I don't want to get graphic – that guy on Duck Dynasty
got graphic and got a little disgusting. But when you see what they
do, it's not very pretty.”
“I want to say this, too: Nobody can
ever produce a child through homosexual sex or lesbian sex. … This
is for procreation and God has said that those who violate it the
land will vomit them out.”
“It isn't for us to tell God what's
fair and what isn't fair. He set it up this way and this is the way
he wants it. He holds all the cards.”
“These people are nice and they go to
church and all this kind of stuff but they're out there doing
something that God says [is] wrong. It's wrong.” (The video is
