Brazilian broadcaster Rede Globo on
Friday aired the nation's first passionate kiss between two male
characters on a prime-time telenovela.
Amor a Vida revolves around a
wealthy family's quest to control San Magno Hospital in Sao Paulo.
The nightly soap opera features nearly
100 characters, including Felix Khoury (played by Mateus Solano) and
Niko Corona (Thiago Fragoso).
In 2005, Rede Globo, the second-largest
commercial TV network in the world behind ABC and the largest
producer of telenovelas, filmed a passionate gay kiss on the soap
America which never aired, according
to GLAAD.
With the hashtag #BeijaFelixENiko
(#KissFelixAndNiko) thousands of fans tweeted producers for a “real
kiss.”
Felix and Niko gave their fans the kiss
they had asked for during the show's finale.
