Clay Aiken Considering Run For Congress, Consultant Says

A North Carolina Democratic Party consultant has told the AP that singer and American Idol alum Clay Aiken is considering a run for Congress as a Democrat.

Consultant Gary Pearce said that Aiken has spoken to him and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) about representing North Carolina's 2^nd congressional district in the U.S. House, which is currently occupied by Rep. Renee Ellmers, a Republican.

Gay weekly the Washington Blade recently cited two unnamed Democratic sources in reporting Aiken's interest in a potential bid.

The 35-year-old Aiken came out gay on the cover of People magazine in 2008, five years after his second-place finish on Fox's American Idol. He is currently raising one son, Parker Foster Aiken.
