A North Carolina Democratic Party
consultant has told the AP that singer and American Idol alum
Clay Aiken is considering a run for Congress as a Democrat.
Consultant Gary Pearce said
that Aiken has spoken to him and the Democratic Congressional
Campaign Committee (DCCC) about representing North Carolina's 2nd
congressional district in the U.S. House, which is currently occupied
by Rep. Renee Ellmers, a Republican.
Gay weekly the Washington
Blade recently cited two unnamed Democratic sources in
reporting Aiken's interest in a potential bid.
The 35-year-old Aiken came out gay on
the cover of People magazine in 2008, five years after his
second-place finish on Fox's American Idol. He is currently
raising one son, Parker Foster Aiken.
