Republican Representatives Louie
Gohmert of Texas and Michele Bachmann of Minnesota on Wednesday
condemned recent rulings striking down gay marriage bans in Utah and
Oklahoma.
Tea Party favorites Bachmann and
Gohmert were joined by Iowa Rep. Steve King during a Heritage Network
panel titled Conversations with Conservatives.
“They need some basic plumbing
lessons,” Gohmert said of the federal judges who handed down the
rulings. “For one omnipotent, omniscious, ubiquitous federal judge
who is wise beyond his education to say – to make a declaration
about the law – I think, requires revisiting by each state and
compliance with the U.S. Supreme Court.”
Not enforcing the Defense of Marriage
Act (DOMA) on the ground that it violates the U.S. Constitution was
an “example of the lawlessness” of President Barack Obama's
administration, Bachmann
asserted.
“The legacy of Barack Obama will be
of the establishment of lawlessness in the United States,” Bachmann
said. She also compared Obama and judges who struck down the bans to
Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi declaring “that his edicts were
not appealable to a court.”
