Singer and American Idol alum
Clay Aiken is considering a run for Congress as a Democrat.
Gay weekly the Washington
Blade cites two unnamed Democratic sources in reporting
Aiken's interest in representing North Carolina's 2nd
congressional district in the U.S. House, which is currently occupied
by Rep. Renee Ellmers, a Republican.
Aiken is “actively considering” it
and “sounding and acting like a candidate,” one source told the
paper.
More concrete steps cited include
meeting with figures in Raleigh, North Carolina and talking to the
Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) about a potential
bid.
Aiken came out gay on the cover of
People magazine in 2008, five years after his second-place
finish on Fox's American Idol. He is currently raising one
son, Parker Foster Aiken.
