Clay Aiken Considering Run For Congress

Singer and American Idol alum Clay Aiken is considering a run for Congress as a Democrat.

Gay weekly the Washington Blade cites two unnamed Democratic sources in reporting Aiken's interest in representing North Carolina's 2^nd congressional district in the U.S. House, which is currently occupied by Rep. Renee Ellmers, a Republican.

Aiken is “actively considering” it and “sounding and acting like a candidate,” one source told the paper.

More concrete steps cited include meeting with figures in Raleigh, North Carolina and talking to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) about a potential bid.

Aiken came out gay on the cover of People magazine in 2008, five years after his second-place finish on Fox's American Idol. He is currently raising one son, Parker Foster Aiken.
