Communications executive Justine Sacco
has been fired over an insensitive tweet.
The
Los Angeles Times reported on Saturday that Sacco, a director
of communications at media mogul Barry Diller's IAC, was fired over a
12-word tweet.
“Going to Africa. Hope I don't get
AIDS. Just kidding. I'm white!” Sacco messaged from London to a
few hundred followers.
The remark provoked outrage as the
hashtag #HasJustineLandedYet trended on the social media platform.
IAC called the tweet “outrageous”
and “offensive” in a statement.
Appearing on This Week, Bill
Kristol, founder and editor of the The Weekly Standard, linked
the firing to the current controversy surrounding Duck Dynasty's
Phil Robertson, who has been suspended from the reality show over
anti-gay comments.

“The political practice is out of
hand,” Kristol said. “She sends some tweet getting on a plane
and she's fired before the plane lands. I mean that is insane. That
really is sort of lynch mob, you know, on Twitter.”
