Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday responded
to rumors that her marriage to Portia De Rossi was “crumbling.”
DeGeneres and De Rossi married in
California in 2008, just before a voter approved ban eliminated the
right for gay couples in the state for the next 4.5 years.
Without naming the Star Magazine
cover featuring the couple under the headline “Marriage Crumbles;
How jealousy, sex & money are tearing them apart,” DeGeneres
poked fun at the tabloid.
“I don't want to say which one it
was, but the cover it says, 'No. 1 for celebrity news,'” DeGeneres
told her daytime talk show audience. “And obviously they would not
lie about that.”
“It's so ridiculous to me. There's
not one ounce of truth to any of it. I'm very happily married. In
fact, the only thing we ever argue about is who loves who more. That
is all. It really is true,” she said to thunderous applause.
“We argue,” DeGeneres added, “if
we'd let a kangaroo carry us around in its pouch for a year. I
would. She wouldn't. She'll change her mind.” (The video is
