Puerto Rican boxer Orlando “The Phenomenon” Cruz, boxing's first openly gay fighter, on Saturday married Jose Manuel Colon in New York City

The pair reportedly exchanged vows in Central Park.

“[G]iving thanks to my heavenly father for another day in my life and in the life of my now husband Jose Manuel,” Cruz wrote in a Facebook post.

According to gay week the Washington Post, New York City Councilmember Melissa Mark-Viverito officiated the ceremony. Mark-Viverito is among the frontrunners to succeed Christine Quinn in her position as council speaker.

Puerto Rican gay activist Pedro Julio Serrano served as the wedding's best man.

Cruz, who came out gay last year, proposed to Manuel in a video posted on Facebook in August.

“I want to tell you and share with your friends, and my friends, will you marry me?” Cruz asked in the 2-minute video. “It's an important step, a step which I've thought about, which we have thought about.”
