Anti-gay activists Gordon Klingenschmitt and Will Perkins on Monday claimed that gay people want to marry to gain access to children.

Perkins helped pass Colorado's 1992 constitutional amendment which prohibited the state from recognizing sexual orientation as a protected class. Amendment 2 was struck down as unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1996 landmark case Romer v. Evans.

During an appearance Monday on Klingenschmitt's web show Pray In Jesus Name, Perkins asserted that “homosexuality is not normal.”

“Homosexuality is an aberration,” Perkins said. “That is a deviation from the fact. And the deviation, in this case, if homosexuality were the norm … there would be no human race.”

“So, if homosexuality were normalized, people would not have children, because when a man mates with another man he doesn't get pregnant,” Klingenschmitt said.

“Homosexuality does not reproduce. It recruits,” Perkins stated.

“So, the only way they can propagate their own kind is to recruit the children of heterosexuals?” Klingenschmitt asked.

“Correct. And that's why they're so interested in marriage, for the access to children,” Perkins stated. “That's the main reason [gays are interested in marriage]. It isn't for their welfare, it's for their recruitment.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)

Of course, this argument relies on the spurious claim that sexual orientation is a choice that can be easily influenced through internal and external forces, including the simple acknowledgment that gay people exist. Additionally, gay people can – and do – reproduce biologically with the help of a surrogate. Often gay people come out after living a closeted heterosexual life which includes children.
