In stating his opposition to a proposed gay marriage bill in Illinois, David Rodgers, an apostle at the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in Chicago, compared gay parents to “five-year-olds who think they can drive cars.”

Rodgers made his remarks while speaking to a Fox 32 reporter before boarding a bus carrying opponents of the measure to a rally in Springfield.

“Our nation is not built on the strength of its army or its finances, but what goes on in our living rooms, and family always has been and will always be the foundation and bedrock of society,” Rodgers said. “And so we're gonna stand for what God ordained: It's one woman, one man. Every child needs a mom and a dad.”

When the reporter asked what's wrong with gay couples raising children, Rodgers answered: “Well, we have 5-year-olds who think they can drive cars. But the reality is there is a certain way that things are structured. … There's a male lion, there's a female lion. There's a rooster, and there's a chicken. And biology tells us what was ordained.” (The video is embedded on this page. Visit our video library for more videos.)
