Former South Carolina GOP executive director Todd Kincannon on Tuesday defended tweeting that transgender people should be put in camps.

“There are people who respect transgender rights,” Kincannon, an attorney, tweeted on Monday. “And there are people who think you should all be put in a camp. That's me.”

“Mental institutions will do just fine.”

“I have plenty of compassion for trannies,” he later added. “They should all be locked up in mental institutions and their care paid for by the state.”

Kincannon's provocative tweets created an uproar on Twitter, which continued on Tuesday.

“The trannies are still mad!” he messaged to his nearly 43,000 followers, followed by suggesting that Olympian Bruce Jenner was transgender: “just confirmed what we've long suspected about Bruce 'Manny Lou Retton' Jenner.”

Later he defended his comments: “Jews, brown people, and gays are born that way. It's ok to hate trannies because they choose trannyism. Just like Muslims.”
